olympic bus exsperiment

On the 25th of July the year 3,4,5 and 6's of Broadlands School went to Rotorua to go see the Olympic bus but it was more of an Olympic truck.  There was other schools there as well.

Broadlands spilt up into groups.   The year 3 and 4's were together and the year 5 and 6's also.

The year 6's and 5's started at the gymnastics area and the year 3 and 4's started at the volley-ball area.
In the gymnastics area we got a number and that was the group that we would be in. My group started at the minature tramp where you had to run, jump then land straight on the mat.

When we heard the whistle blow that was the signal for your team to rotate onto a different obsticle anti-clockwise.   We learnt lots of other things in the gymnastics area. Ding, Ding the bell rang so this means that it is time to change sections.

So we moved onto Soccer.  Soccer is really fun. We learnt how to score a goal and how to guard the soccerball.  Yay! Time for more activities. We got to line up into two lines and we were giveb a colour, wither red or blue. We raced lots of people and against one another. Some people were really fast and some were slow but it dosen't matter because we were just here to have fun.

Time for the Olympic bus. Wow! there were lots of touch screens, and we buddied up and we chose our are questions to research. At the end we got a photo with a silver medal.

IT WAS SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pass it

On the 11th of June Arehi from the magics team came to our school to teach us how to play Pass it.
The year 5 and 6 students lined up and headed to the Broadlands hall, across the road from the school. We grab a hard green netball and we pass it to our partner.  Then Arehi  split us into 3 groups to play pattern ball. Pattern ball is when you and your team form a circle and pass the ball to each team mate but you are not allowed  to pass it to the person beside you. We played lots of different games to practice our passing skills.
We enjoyed our time with our coach and had lots of fun.

Corrugated applique fish.

Room3 has been learning about sustainability so we have been making applique fish to hang underneath the netting which represents the river. To make the fish we had to get a piece of corrugated cardboard and draw a fish shape on the smooth side.We cut out our fish shape and made sure we have the corrugated on the right side.  Lastly we painted the backround of the fish with a light colour of our choice. The next day it was dry so we disign a patten on the fish.  I drew 3 triangles on one side and 3 twirly lines on the other side. The triangles represent the fins and and the twirly lines represent the gills.  After we completing this activity we had to sew the to sides of the fish together but we have to leave some space so we could stuff the fish with newspaper. We sewed it all up and then we hung the fish using a long string.

The Singing Stars

Hooray! The day has arrived. The singing pop stars have come to broadlands school so they can audition. Everybody was vocative to hear the singers magnificent  voice. We were all thrilled to hear their beautiful, sweet voices that sweapt us off our feet.  Before they auitioned they had to sing a song of their choice to room 3. Everybody was clapping. We thought that they all will make it in for a part in our school production. Whaea Margo and Mrs Sutherland are the judges and are going to pick the finalist.

Flooding In our classroom

Flooding in our classroom!
On Monday 28th of May 2012.
Room 3 had an enormous flood in our classroom. When our teacher Whaea Margo stepped into our soggy, soaking, squishy, wet carpet she could smell the disgusting, vulgar stink in the air.
Everybody was moaning because it smelted like something had died under our classroom. It could have been Mr Taylor because he has been away from school for a term. WE HOPE NOT!
Because of this strange stink in the air, from the carpet, Room 3 had to work in the learning centre which meant that all the other classes had to miss out changing their library books this week. HOW SAD!
Today it still smells like rotten toe-jams, and we hope to be back in our cosy warm and beautiful classroom SOON. Hopefully the disgusting horrible smell will vanish away.

Claymation

Room 3 is learning about Sustainability. We had to make a storyboard about what our message was going to be and this helped us to sequence our ideas as well. This was awesome. Once we did the storyboard we created clay figures and filmed or took pictures of then to make a movie of them.  Piper and I chose to use a clayamation program.
Here is a picture of our clay figures.

After we let it dry, we painted a fern design on our awesome pumice. We were all proud of our artwork because it looks great.

Camp 2012

On the 21st to the 23rd March room 3 and room 5 went on a year 5/6 camp at Papamoa by Mount Maunganui. We went snorkelling, rock climbing and we also climbed Mount  Maunganui. On the last day we went to Waimarino which is a exiting water park. They had kayaks, the blob, a water slide, diving boards and we were able to accomplish the hydro-slide in a kayak or on a mat. There was a little hot pool and beside it there was a water-slide were  we had to slide on our knees. Our instructor Priscilla told us how to use all the equipment and she also said that we weren't allowed to use three swear words which were freezing, cold and can’t. Camp was fun until it was time to go back to school.

!!ANZAC DAY!!

ANZAC DAY
Room 3 has been learning all about Anzac day. We had to get into groups and we each chose a card which had a photo at the front and a story and an activity at the back of the card. One group had to make Anzac cookies and i was in that group. When we made the first batch of  Anzac cookies it tasted vulgar because we put too much baking powder in it. The second batch of Anzac cookies I tried was full of goodness and were the most delicous Anzac cookies i have ever had. YUMMY!!

KOTAHITANGA

Kotahitanga was Room 3's inquiry focus for term 1.

Kotahitanga in our classroom means oneness, harmony and unity.  This looks like helping one another, being respectful, caring for others, honesty.  In our environment it looks like cleanliness in our
classroom, picking up rubbish in the school, tuakana/teina.
